Today's electronics apply run at higher power levels and higher speeds. This continued demand on electronic components brings with it an exceptional increase in power densities and improved reliabilities. As a direct result, the demand on thermal management capabilities has increased in the field of high power electronics. High power today requires power removal from components at approximately 100W/cm2. Tomorrow's requirements will reach values close to 500W/cm2 (about half the mean power density of the sun's surface).


The challenge today is to improve thermal management capabilities to keep industrial applications in step with semiconductor development. Ferraz Shawmut Thermal Management brings additional circuit protection expertise in the area of semiconductor applications and is responding to this challenge with a range of specifically designed products.


 

The problem

Designing electronic components and systems can no longer be successfully accomplished without considering associated thermal aspects :

- continuous thermal flow increase in modern electronics
- focused with high power semiconductors (>100A) and associated equipment
- meet cost reduction requirements (use components at the maximum of their performances).

Thermal management is now an integral part of electronics, but must not be a limiting factor technically or economically.
