Type of components to be cooled: Press-pack type: Diode, GTO, Thyristor, IGBT, IGCT
Applications: Power conversion, traction drives, HVDC, medical

For several years now Ferraz Shawmut Thermal Management has been innovating with water boxes to meet the changing, every more demanding needs of the market.

Calistor® uses a patented technology developed for applications with press-pack type components that require higher thermal performances than those of the typical water boxes on the market.

Today Ferraz Shawmut Thermal Management can provide you with a complete range of water box technology combining high performance with low cost, based on the tight control of vacuum brazing that 15 years' experience has brought.

General presentation of product technologies:

Calistor® comes in three different series that cover every need: G, U and M.
  • G series: a stack of pre-cut colaminated aluminum grids and two enclosing covers form the body of the Calistor®. It can accommodate clamped electronic components up to 100 mm in diameter.
  • U series: an aluminum block with a cooling circuit machined on each side and two enclosing covers form the body of the Calistor®. It can cool any clamped electronic component on the market.
  • M series: an assembly of an aluminum block, pre-cut colaminated aluminum grids, and two enclosing covers forms the body of the Calistor®. It can accommodate clamped electronic components up to 100 mm in diameter.
The design of the cooling circuit is optimized in each case to achieve the best possible compromise between thermal performance and load losses.

The advantages of a vacuum brazed water box:

With vacuum brazing you get a water box in a single, solid piece with no additional contact resistances. It guarantees high internal pressure withstand - of the order of 15 bars - and eliminates any risk of leakage or corrosion over time, since no flux that would contaminate the brazing is used.

It also enables you to take assembly a step further, as electrical and hydro-connections can be mounted at the same time, giving the Calistor® unequaled leaktightness, high pressure withstand, and perfect electrical continuity that last!
