Type of components
to be cooled: All screw-mounted types
Applications:
Power conversion, traction drives, UPS, broadcasting, laser
& plasma
General presentation:
The air cooling heat sink is still the most commonly used
cooling technique in all industries because it is the simplest
to set up. And yet, today's electronic components dissipate
ever increasing amounts of power, pushing air cooling to its
physical limits.
With the aim of bringing its customers ever greater satisfaction,
Ferraz Shawmut Thermal Management has entered into an exclusive
agreement with the Canadian company R-Theta for distribution
of the FABFIN range in Europe.
FABFIN uses a totally innovative technology, now patented
in Europe.
That technology means Ferraz Shawmut Thermal Management can
offer its customers the highest performances in air cooling
at market prices.
Product presentation:
The Radiacal® FABFIN is designed for cooling applications
that must dissipate high power densities.
The FABFIN series itself is a mechanical assembly of fins
to a base plate by swaging. The materials used may be aluminum
or copper in any combination:
- aluminum base
plate and fins
- aluminum base plate and copper fins
- copper base plate and aluminum fins
- copper base plate and fins |

Advantages to this
technology:
In addition to enhanced performance through the use of copper,
swaging creates an almost perfect contact between the fins
and the base plate, guaranteeing much higher thermal performance
than the conventional technologies on the market. Mechanically,
this technology meets the extremely severe standards on vibrations
imposed on traction applications.
Swaging also reduces the spacing between the fins, further
enhancing thermal performance by increasing the surface area
available for heat exchange with the air.
